In January 2023, we started the log sorting project at Troy Lumber Co. in Troy, North Carolina. The aim of this upgrade was to increase the log processing rate and improve efficiency (less downtime) to meet the mill’s growing needs. To achieve this goal, we installed several STREAM feeders to increase line speed, several log straighteners to keep logs aligned and reduce interruptions in log transfers, as well as an Autolog log sorter to improve sorting during transfers. Recently, a rotating table to change the position of logs was also installed. The equipment was designed for 8’ to 16’ southern yellow pine logs, and the line was automated by Autolog. This log sorting system is one of the fastest in the southern United States. The expertise of the Troy Lumber team on site helped make this project a success.
